Microsoft is not fooling around, people! Even on April 1. Word is that the company has finished work on the first ever refresh of Windows 8.1, and Update 1 is close to hitting RTM status.
Company executives recently confirmed the existence of Windows 8.1 Update 1, however no release date was provided — not even an estimated launch frame.
But reports on the matter have hinted that the new version of the OS is to be unveiled at the start of the fourth month of the year, at the BUILD developer conference. Users, however, will only get it on April 8. This is when Microsoft is scheduled to roll out its Patch Tuesday updates.
And now WZor has chimed in on the release date, and claims that Windows 8.1 Update 1 is very likely to be made available for download on April 1, just before BUILD 2014 kicks off.
What this means is that users might be able to get the update bits earlier than was initially expected.
Sure, this is just a rumor for now, and even the April 8 release date was not something that was officially confirmed. But this new date makes all sorts of sense, for all sorts of logical reasons.
One, users will be able to get their hands on the update around the same time the company unveils it at its BUILD event. Second, since interest is bound to be high in this update, Microsoft will be able to deliver it without any hiccups to users, ahead of the Patch Tuesday fixes. Sayonara bandwidth issues!
More information will be provided as we move closer to launch, this much is certain.
