DirectX 12 Launch Set Alongside Windows 9
« on: August 28, 2014, 02:48:42 AM »
In news that would surprise no one, we today have the talk that DirectX 12 launch is set to coincide with Windows 9, the next full version of the operating system.

Microsoft might even detail this new technology during next month’s press event.

And although we have been hearing about this new version of the popular application programming interface for months now (it was presented by Microsoft earlier this year), only little is known about when DirectX 12 will launch and if it will be exclusive to Windows 9.

DirectX 12 comes with the next version of Direct3D, which is not only faster than its predecessor because of lower level hardware abstraction, but is much better at scaling too.

It can do multithreaded operations while optimizing CPU utilization, and when you combine this with a new set of rendering pipeline, you are looking at some wholesale performance improvements.

But that's just the half of it.

This new version of the API will also bring along significant drops in terms of power consumption, making DirectX 12 perfect for mobile devices like tablets.

In fact, Microsoft and Intel were present at the SIGGRAPH conference in Los Angeles recently, where they demoed an experimental version of DirectX 12 running on a Surface Pro 3, and it showed a massive drop in power consumption by around 50%.

All things considered, there is every chance that Microsoft will introduce DirectX 12 with Windows 9, when the new operating system launches next year.
