No Live ID integration in Windows 8?
« on: April 01, 2011, 05:11:01 PM »
Through GeekSmack’s sources close to Microsoft, we’ve learned that current builds of Windows 8 don’t have any form of Live ID login integration in place, or any other forms of Windows Live deeply built into the OS. This confirms observations by Microsoft blogger Manan Kakkar, who noted that the feature likely doesn’t exist.

The reports that this feature existed stemmed from the innocent speculation after sites being tipped off with screenshots glanced at the display picture on the bottom right of the superbar and made assumptions that Live ID integration exists.

Instead, the image that lies to the bottom right of the superbar is simply your Windows account picture. Clicking on the image just gives you the ability to switch users, log off, and lock your PC, as well as make changes to your account by launching the ‘User Accounts’ area in the control panel, as shown in the screenshot at the top of this article.

Microsoft may or may not be planning to integrate Live IDs with Windows 8, but in current builds, this functionality does not exist.
