Windows 10 is designed with tight OneDrive integration. It allows users to synchronize their files across various devices and computers. The latest stable version of the native OneDrive client ships with download and upload transfer rate limit options. This means that the service can now slow down other Internet activities on the computer when it has assumed the task of transferring files.
Limit Download and Upload rate in OneDrive
The time it takes to upload or download a data from OneDrive depends on your Internet connection speed, how close you are geographically to Microsoft servers, and so on. If you wish to maximize your speed, you can do the following:
1. Use a wired instead of a wireless connection.
2. Restrict bandwidth usage for other activities while the upload or download is in progress
On the other hand, if a download or an upload is in progress, OneDrive could end up using up all the bandwidth.
But now you can throttle or set the bandwidth limits that OneDrive can use for downloading or uploading files. To set the limit for uploading and downloading transfer rates via OneDrive on Windows 10, follow these steps:
Locate the OneDrive client icon in the Windows notification area. If you cannot find it there, hit the Win key, type OneDrive, and select the OneDrive desktop application from the results.
Now,
right-click on the OneDrive icon and chose the
Settings option from the options listed in the menu. Then switch to the Network tab when the settings window opens.
Here, the options to set the
Upload rate and
Download rate limits individually should be visible to you.
The default setting is Don’t limit. For uploading larger files, it is advisable to keep the setting at Don’t limit to let OneDrive handle the rate automatically.
But if you wish to set the rates manually, select the
Limit to button and set a rate in KBs. Click on OK and exit.
It is important to note that all the changes introduced will be applicable only to the desktop version of OneDrive app and not the universal app.
