Redmond has just released a new patch for version 11 of Internet Explorer that is running on Windows 8.1 systems that tries to fix number of issues in the new browser.
Normally, the company releases such patches for its software products on the second Tuesday of each month, and the event is labeled as Patch Tuesday. But it decided to release this reliability patch outside of its normal schedule.
Not too many details on what exactly the patch fixes, except that it improves reliability overall.
Microsoft has, however, confirmed that this update is aimed at its latest operating systems — including Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT 8.1, along with the Standard, Foundation and Datacenter flavors of Windows Server 2012 R2.
The update is being delivered to Windows 8.1 users via Windows Update, meaning it is automatic and no user interaction is necessary to deploy these new fixes.
It is also available as a
manual download for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 8.1, as well as a separate download for Windows Server 2012 R2. Windows RT users, however, have no other option than to get it via Windows Update.
And while the company is keeping the details of what is fixed to itself, it does mention that users will have to restart their PC (or tablet) after installation.
