Automatic translation in any Windows application
« on: January 15, 2012, 02:34:59 AM »
Although the Google Translate service is very useful, Transmiti takes it one step further by providing instant translations at the touch of a button

Launch a web browser and visit the Transmiti website. When the page appears, click the Download Transmiti link and, if the File Download Security Warning dialogue box appears, click Save and then choose a location for the file. Firefox users should select Save File to save the download to Firefox’s default download folder. Now locate and double-click the downloaded file and, if another Security Warning dialogue box appears, click Run. A small window appears showing basic instructions for using the program. Read through them and if you want then click the minimise button (the underscore symbol next to the X) to demote it to an icon in the Notification Area.

By default, Transmiti detects the source language automatically and translates the selected text into English. To do this, just use the mouse to select some text in an application then press the Windows key. A small window appears on top of the current application, showing the translation. At the same time Transmiti copies the translated text into the Windows Clipboard, ready to be pasted wherever needed.

To change the way Transmiti works, click the Transmiti icon in the Notification Area (it looks like a little girl’s face). When the Transmiti window appears, click the Settings tab and then use the Translate from and Translate into dropdown menus to set the desired languages, for example. Alternatively, to alter Transmiti’s reliance on the Windows key, choose a new key from the Hotkey dropdown menu. To have Transmiti launch with Windows, so that it’s always available, just click to tick the ‘Automatically start with Windows’ box. If you find the translation displayed in the Transmiti window too small to read, click the Settings II tab and use the plus (‘+’) and minus (‘-’) buttons to increase the magnification.
