The new iPhone/iPad/iPod touch web-based jailbreak method is extremely easy to use and removes the complexity of installing software on a PC or Mac. Users just go to a specific website and just start the process by sliding a button (similar to the way someone unlocks iOS devices).
However, the fact that it is so simple, raises concerns about the security of iOS. A hacker could easily use a similar method to remotely plant malware on an unsuspecting victim’s device. The web-based jailbreak appears to be an attack against a security hole in iOS.
The web-based jailbreak method attacks a flaw in the iOS PDF viewer in order to gain access to the device. It is surprising that Apple hasn’t acted yet to close that security hole. “I wonder how long until someone figures out the actual bug I’m exploiting,” Comex, one of the developers of the jailbreak, wrote in a twitter message.
