While some people like the idea of a wireless Magic Trackpad, some think that is a waste of batteries (even rechargable batteries). Since the Magic Trackpad is most of the times sitting in front of the desktop, wouldn’t it make sense from Apple to provide a USB cable to connect and power the new pointing device? Apple didn’t think so but Mark Bog did so he created a DIY USB adapter for the Magic Trackpad.

It consists of a dowel of similar diameter like the batteries, with a screw in each end. Bog scavenged a USB cord, connecting hot and ground wires to the corresponding pole of the adapter. The interesting part is that Apple’s Magic Trackpad works with 2AA batteries that give 3V power. The USB provides devices with 5V power, however the DIY still works. If you don’t want to recharge batteries all the time, give it a try.
