Moto Droid 2 ad jabs iPhone's 'app for that' spots

Motorola this weekend poked fun at Apple again with another ad, this time for the Droid 2. The full-page newspaper spread riffs on Apple's "there's an app for that" iPhone spots with the simple question "Flash websites? There's a phone for that." It argues that Flash is "compromise-free" web browsing as it allegedly shows all the contents other phones, like the iPhone, might miss.
"Flash sites require Flash capabilities," it reads. "Seemed pretty simple to us."
The claims reiterate what Motorola has said before and don't entirely ring true, as recent testers have noted that Flash access on Android so far can be excessively slow or still lack needed features to run properly. While it opens access to sites that would previously have been closed off altogether to an iPhone, Flash 10.1 still usually runs best with sites that have optimized the content for touchscreen phones, often defeating the notion that mobile Flash gives access to the desktop web. Google's YouTube has pressed for a middle road and has agreed with Apple that HTML5 is useful for video but has said Flash is sometimes still needed for copy protection and other techniques that aren't accounted for in the current HTML5 standard.
No matter the accuracy, the campaign shows Motorola still determined to reclaim its title as the top US-based phone maker from Apple. Previous print ads have mocked the iPhone 4 case program and signal drops, although Apple controversially tried to show Droid X signal problems.
