This is kind of funny: there’s a promotional website for Office 2010 called MakeItGreat2010 (http://www.makeitgreat2010.com/) that’s offering a unique feature: Facebook personalization. Now, why would you want to personalize your own Office advertisement? Because you can?
Actually, it’s a pretty creative way to market the product, as it demonstrates the many new features of the latest Office upgrade, while attracting your attention by showcasing your own Facebook content and that belonging to your Facebook friends. For example, a PowerPoint demo shows off a video from Facebook, the Outlook Social Connector is shown with your own most recent status update and profile pic. Your social connections are shown with actual photos from your online friends, and more. Windows Live and Window Mobile are also briefly mentioned, again using a photo from one of your Facebook albums during the demo. You’ll even see your old photos digitized on a green screen while the video does its “look back” at Office’s history, including a self-deprecating mention of Clippy.
The ad itself leaves a little to be desired – it’s sort of long and I’m not a fan of the narration used. But I sat through the whole thing to see how Facebook was integrated and maybe that’s the point. Hmm, I guess it worked!
(Note: I had to turn the pop-up blocker off to authorize Facebook).
