Toktumi has notified all Line2 (News - Alert) iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users not to upgrade to iOS version 4.2 because of a possible bug(http://i56.tinypic.com/10r7536.jpg)  which may be causing the ringer to continue to ring.

According to a company blog post, “If you upgrade to iOS 4.2 and you are running Line2 in the background, the ringer will continue to ring even after an incoming call is answered.”

Toktumi said that Apple Developer Support was aware of this issue with the ringer. Apple has designated this as “severe,” Toktumi added.

In addition, Apple has released a new Golden Master to developers of the iOS 4.2.1, according to Toktumi.

“We are currently testing the new release and will provide an update on results shortly. Until then … please do not update to iOS 4.2,” Toktumi said. “Line2 will continue to work as normal with your current operating system. We strongly encourage you not to install iOS 4.2 until Apple fixes the upgrade issue.”

Toktumi says this issue affects Line2, as well as all other VoIP and social calling applications. However, if users do not use Line2, the issue will not affect Toktumi service, the company said.

Toktumi added that it will send an e-mail update to its users as soon as it is safe to perform the upgrade.

TMCnet reported earlier this year that with Line2’s WiFi capabilities, international travelers can place and receive calls while overseas without incurring voice or data roaming charges. Along with calls to other Line2 users, calls to any number back home are essentially free, irrespective of the location. Whether calling from home or abroad, outbound calls to international numbers start at $0.02 per minute, said the company.

Apple describes iOS 4 as “the world’s most advanced mobile operating system.”

In a recent posting, Apple said that “soon iPad owners will get to enjoy its 100-plus new features and innovations — including multitasking, folders, printing, and more. Look for iOS 4.2 coming in November for iPad, iPhone (News - Alert), and iPod Touch.1,” according to the Apple posting.
