The Android 2.3 user manual (http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=182077) which came out earlier today doesn’t mention anything about using Google Talk to make video calls on Android phones. But the folks at Android Guys found evidence that the new version of Google Talk either already supports video chat or that Google is laying the groundwork for future support.
If you look in the software developer kit that Google released this morning, you’ll find new icons for Google Talk which look like little video cameras. In fact, these icons are the same as the icons Google uses for the desktop version of Google Talk to indicate video chat.
This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. One of the features Google is talking about with this release, is that it’s easier for developers to write apps that access the camera(s) on smartphones running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Why wouldn’t Google do the same for its own apps?
