There are many different reasons a person would want to hacktivate their iPhone or iPod Touch, ranging from acquiring a different carrier, to the ability to use apps from outside of the Apple Store. And for some versions of the iPhone or iPod the hacktivation is a little difficult. So read carefully, back up your system now, and completely read the directions before you attempt the procedures.
How To Use The Blackra1n App
First you will need to update your iTunes (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/), and do the backup. Then you will need to go here (http://modmyi.com/forums/downloads/windows/9/blackr1n-32279/): You will have to chose the correct version for your OS. Once the download is complete just run the program. Once the iPhone reboots the blackra1n app will be there in the Springboard. Run it and install blacksn0w. If you have already had blackra1n installed on your iPhone, run the app and you’ll see “ra1n” instead of “Icy.” Upgrade by tapping it. After the upgrade, it’ll show “sn0w” in the options. Install this program it and your iPhone will be unlocked.

iPod Jailbreak Untethered
The new Spirit jailbreak tool has been released which provides an untethered jailbreak. This means that you don’t have to re-jailbreak your iPod Touch 3G or iPhone 3GS after every reboot. Download Spirit here (http://spiritjb.com/). Run Spirit and then click Jailbreak. If you get error code c0000005, set compatibility mode to Windows 95/Me. When the jailbreak is done, the app will show you the status. Your iPod Touch should automatically reboot and you’ll have an untethered jailbreak! Congrats!
