Share your photos, video and music with other devices

If you’ve got lots of content, such as movies, music and photos stored on your PC or laptop, chances are you’ll probably want to access some of it when you’re not at home.
ZumoCast (http://www.zumocast.com/) is a free app that turns your computer into a kind of media server, able to stream music, video and other files to another PC, iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. Android users shouldn’t despair: an app for Google’s open-source platform is coming soon.
Step 1. Visit zumocast.com (http://www.zumocast.com/) and download and install the client on to your PC or Mac. Create an account, entering your name, email address and a password. Select the folder you want to remotely access. In Windows 7, the Music, Photo, Video and Documents folders are selected by default.

Step 2. To add folders to the selection, click ‘Add folder’ and browse to the desired folder. Alternatively, select ‘Make a new folder’ and give it a name. After you’ve exited the software, transfer files into the folder. Press Next. You can now stream your files from any web-connected PC – provided your machine is left running.

Step 3. To access files on a different machine, head to zumocast.com and log into your account. Three tabs offer files, video and music. To play music or video, click the corresponding tab, choose a file and hit Play. Use the Files tab to see all your files, and right-click a file to download it directly to your hard drive.

Step 4. The ZumoCast iPhone/iPad app is free to download from Apple’s App Store. It offers the same setup as the ZumoCast website for streaming music and video files. The download function is slightly different, however, with a dedicated Download button for transferring files to your device.
