While we are waiting for a jailbreak to unlock iOS 4.2.1 iPhone 4 handsets, a little victory has happened in the front of unlocking for carriers.
Over the weekend, a video surfaced that showed a Verizon iPhone 4 unlocked to run on another US carrier, the CDMA-based Cricket. Now we're not sure how this was done but can assume a jailbreak and clever flashing was involved.
This comes as great news for pre-paid Cricket customers who don't wish to go with the big two, Verizon and AT&T. However it also opens up the potential for the Verizon iPhone to be hacked into running on other CDMA carriers, Sprint in particular.
While there is no unlocked Verizon iPhone 4 running on Sprint at the moment, there is a strong possibility that after the device has been successfully jailbroken, this may very well become the case. Unfortunately the video (below) doesn't explain how exactly the Verizon iPhone was tricked into running on Cricket.
