Apple released the first software update for its new Mac OS X Lion operating system Tuesday, fixing bugs that affect watching videos in the company's Safari browser, the reliability of Wi-Fi connections, and other issues.
Mac OS X Lion, the successor to Apple's Snow Leopard operating system for its Mac desktop and laptop computers, debuted about a month ago to great fanfare. In late July, Apple issued a fix for issues arising from migrating from Snow Leopard to Lion, while a problem with connecting NAS drives to the new OS also surfaced.
Details about Tuesday's OS X Lion 10.7.1 update can be found on Apple's support site here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4764), and a special update for Mac Minis and MacBook Airs can be directly downloaded here (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1439).
According to Apple, the main update was released to:
- Address an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when playing a video in Safari.
- Resolve an issue that may cause system audio to stop working when using HDMI or optical audio out.
- Improve the reliability of Wi-Fi connections.
- Resolve an issue that prevents transfer of your data, settings, and compatible applications to a new Mac running OS X Lion.
- Resolve an issue in which an admin user account could be missing after upgrading to OS X Lion.
In addition to fixing those problems, the special OS X Lion 10.7.1 update for Mac Minis and MacBook Airs will:
- Resolve an issue where MacBook Air may boot up when MagSafe Adapter is attached.
- Resolve an issue causing intermittent display flickering on MacBook Air.
- Resolve an issue that causes the SD card slot in Mac mini to run at reduced speed with SD and SDHC media.
