Microsoft released Windows 8 Consumer Preview for download but some users do not have a computer that is capable of running the Metro UI with all the visual that it comes with. This means that some features like the Aero Glass are automatically disabled by Windows for best performance.
Interestingly, you can enable the Aero Glass in Aero Lite theme from Windows 8, which loads by default on computers that do not support the Aero visuals. If you would like to find out if you can run Windows 8 on an old PC with all the Metro UI visuals you can always check out our guide.
When Aero Lite theme is activated in Windows 8, the interface looks pretty basic and quite dull. It does not really feel that you’re using a completely new interface like you are supposed to in Windows 8. With the help of a tweak or bug in Consumer Preview, you can enable the Aero Glass in Aero Lite theme from Windows 8. This is probably going to be fixed in future builds of Windows 8 Consumer Preview or in the Release to Manufacture version but here are the steps to enable Aero Glass feature in the Aero Lite theme until then.

Open the Personlize Appearance menu by right clicking on the desktop and selecting the option from the menu. The Aero theme should be already enabled and applied but in case it’s not, you must apply the theme to proceed to the next step.
At the bottom of the Appearance window you will see a link called Window Color. Click on the link and open the window.
Now go back to the desktop and right click to select the Personalize option again. A second window will now open; you must select the Windows Basic theme and apply to apply the Aero Lite theme. This will not give you the Aero Glass feature yet so please continue following the next step to enable the Aero Glass in Aero Lite from Windows 8.
Go to the Window Color And Appearance options menu that you opened in the previous steps and deselect the Enable Transparency option. To enable the Aero Glass in Aero Lite theme from Windows 8 you will have to select it again and then click on the Save Changes button.
Even though the tweak or bug does not seem logic, you have to first deselect and then reselect the Enable Transparency option in this particular order if you would like to enable the Aero Glass in Aero Lite theme from Windows 8.
