You can change the way the Start button works from Shutdown to either Hibernate or Sleep by doing the following:
Just right click on the taskbar and select the Start menu tab. You can than change it from Shutdown to either Hibernate of Sleep if you wish. I personally have my system always set to Hibernate after a certain period of time, but if you wish to have a manual option, this will work for you.
