Well, for a start, they need to press all the DVDs. Box them up, ship them off, make sure everything is properly set for launch day. It takes a little while for all that stuff to be done mate. It's not, "right it's finished, lets sell it".

What happens if you do not activate?

I downloaded both x86 and x64 last night and have performed a CLEAN install of x86 on a test system.  This installation took 26 minutes from start to finish (no restart was required) and was 8GB (no updates or software installed at this point). 

After changing my WORKGROUP and entering my IP address, and DNS addresses I rebooted the computer.  I was amazed at how fast it rebooted 20 seconds to be exact. 

I used the activator riso posted, Option 2 and Option 3, and here are my findings,

1.) After Option 2 was completed I was ask to reboot so I did
2.) After rebooting the watermark appeared Windows 7 Evaluation Copy Build 7600

I ran Option 3, it contains numerous options for your selection, I chose

a) Remove Watermark
b) Install 32 bit Key
c) Activate Online

Here are the results,

Going to clean install this over my whole hard drive now. Finally do away with the dual boot. Got my copy on pre order for release day, so don't mind about any expiry dates currently really. Just checking, that people have been able to activate this properly yes?

Strange. I have also used Orbit's Toolkit 1.8 and rebooted several times, including putting the date forward to April 1st 2010. No problems 'yet'. Things might change though so I won't hold my breath.

The activator does not actually activate windows, it stops the countdown clock to make it think it is activated.  As with any Windows release there is a trial period which displays an expiration date.  Once a legitimate key is installed and verified the expiration date disappears.

Running Option 3 gives you the option to remove the watermark which it does after a reboot.  It also give the option to install a 32 bit or 64 bit key, and then the option to activate online.

Once these procedures have been completed and the system is rebooted once again, open the System Properties Page

Start > Right Click Computer > Properties this will tell you this information is not available, but leave it open approximately 1 minute and it will display your activation information.

Once authorized keys are released to the partners, some will leak out into the wild and people will get to work on permanant activation methods as has been done in the past.  At this point in time there is absolutely NO reason to be concerned about activation or having an expiration date showing in your winver.

After initial installation there is 30 days to try your version, then after that it can be rearmed 3 more times each allowing 30 more days to expirement totalling 120 days.  In 120 days we will be well into November and maybe December, and I feel certain many of you have no intention of using this version for the next 4, 5 or 6 years, at least I Hope not.

I would think there are far more important issues than an activation or expiration date to worry about.

I noticed others on here seem to be having issues regarding activating this build.
From my experience the activators from that Russian link do not work properly at all. Or at least you are activated until March next year. Where as using the Toolkit 1.8 I have successfully activated my copy with no problems.
One thing to note though, when clicking on 'Activate Windows' in the Toolkit, do absoloutely nothing and just wait. It does tell you that it will restart Windows once it's done what it does, but because it takes a minute or two and it looks like it's not doing anything, you end up tempted to close it down yourself etc. DO NOT DO ANYTHING. This does work and I have so far rebooted several times and even put the date forward to April 2010 etc just to really check out if there is any limitation.

To be honest, personally I have pre-ordered my Windows 7 already, so I will be wiping this off again in October. But like a typical geek, I just like to fiddle with these things! lol.

Edit: Well, the day after and upon checking winver I have found a Evaluation message that wasn't there before. (typical) So I shall continue to look forward to receiving my bought version in October.

I'm just curious whether this is really the final RTM or just another evaluation build. Like a lot of people here I'll be getting the genuine thing when it comes out in October. So for the time being I don't mind using Build 7264 (because it is properly activated) until October as it works fine for me.

OEM usually has the  Manufacturer Logo for a Splash Screen, and a Special Recovery Partition, also the machine is loaded with crapware trial versions of antivirus software and terrible games.

Hi,

Not sure I understand: I installed clean and activated with Toolkit 1.8. That didn't work well, so after that I used option 3 and it worked. But after a restart I only now have 27 days left. Is that normal or am I doing something wrong?

BTW: I tested it with graphics programs (I'm a photographer) and I see a dramatic speed increase with Photoshop and Nikon Capture NX. Saving files, for example, goes at least 2 x faster! ;D

I have downloaded the RTM and checked the hash numbers. Thank you all for the RTM. Great job.

I am interested in installing the RTM. But I am not keen on having a go at any crack.

I have a couple of questions.

1. Will we get the confirmation about the RTM on August 6 when it is officially released on Technet.

2. If I follow the procedure for extending the testing (trial) period every month till end of October end, will it be possible to activate it with the key I would get with my preorder of Windows 7?

Ifu want premium,just delete ei.cfg(it's called something similar to that if it isn't exact)from the sources folder in the iso.Then u'll get a choice at beginning of install,(for post sankar_45).Use poweriso or ultraiso,or something similar ;)
