Title: Microsoft Surface Tablets Outsourced to Pegatron; Apparently Priced Above $599

This week began with Microsoft’s big announcement regarding their very own tablet, the Surface. Now that we know that there are two models of the device, with Windows 8 Pro and Windows RT, there’s also another thing to earn about, the price. Apparently, the tablet PC production has been outsourced to Pegatron and prices will pass $599.

Sources from the notebook making industry revealed that the 10.6 incher model will be made by Pegatron Technology, but they couldn’t detail the order volumes. The same sources estimated the end market pricing of the Windows 8 Pro Surface with Ivy Bridge CPU to be above $799, while the Windows RT unit with Tegra 3 will be priced above $599. Insiders claim that the industrial design of the device will appeal to consumers and draw them to the enterprise market, while also making them spend a bit more.
 
The high prices are expected to become the biggest problem of the product. Even in the cheapest version, the model will still be more expensive than the iPad 2 and even iPad 3. The good thing about the Microsoft slate is that it can be used as a starting point for future devices…
