Title: Skype Video Messaging Is Officially Out Of Beta, Available On Most Platforms
Post by: javajolt on June 17, 2013, 08:17:41 PM
Microsoft has just announced that video messaging on Skype has exited the preview stage and is out of beta, meaning users on (almost) all platforms can now give it a try by installing the VoIP application.

Skype Video Messaging allows users to record and send videos to contacts — quite similar to standard text messages. Even if the recipients are offline at the time of the sending, they will be notified once they go online.

Users can watch the recorded video in a regular conversation window.

The company has also rolled out a video to go with the announcement that shows how this exciting new feature works. Take a look at it below:

As Microsoft explained on the official blog:

Quote
“Video messaging is now available to all Skype users. You can send and receive as many video messages as you want – completely free of charge. Video messages can be received and viewed on any platform or device running Skype.”
The video messaging service has been in beta for Mac, iOS and Android since February 15, and came to the Windows desktop client and Windows 8 app on April 30 and May 2 respectively.

This feature is available for free, starting today, on most platforms that have a Skype app — including Windows (http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-windows/downloading/), Windows 8 (http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/skype/5e19cc61-8994-4797-bdc7-c21263f6282b), Mac (http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-mac/downloading/), iPhone (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skype-wifi/id444529922?mt=8), iPad (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skype-for-ipad/id442012681?mt=8), Android (http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skype.raider&hl=en) and BlackBerry (http://global.blackberry.com/secure/skype-for-blackberry/en.html). Notably absent from this list is Microsoft’s very own Windows Phone mobile operating system.

But chances are that it should be available on Windows Phone devices soon.
