Microsoft has just announced a new version of its email client Outlook for OS X for Office 365 subscribers. The company says the new version provides improved performance and reliability while aligning the client with Outlook’s other clients - PC, web version, web app, Android, and iOS clients for a consistent experience. Microsoft also announced that it will be releasing first beta of the long-rumored Office for Mac in early 2015, while the final version will release in the second half.

The new Outlook for Mac comes with a new modern user interface, and several features including email support for real-time email delivery. Here’s the complete changelog:

◾ Better performance and reliability as a result of a new threading model and database improvements.

◾ A new modern user interface with improved scrolling and agility when switching between Ribbon tabs.

◾ Online archive support for searching Exchange (online or on-premises) archived mail.

◾ Master Category List support and enhancements delivering access to category lists (name and color) and sync between Mac, Windows and OWA clients.

◾ Office 365 push email support for real-time email delivery.

◾ Faster first-run and email download experience with improved Exchange Web Services syncing.

Earlier this month, leaked screenshots revealed Microsoft’s plans to release the new Office for Mac in 2015. The company also recently confirmed that it will be releasing Office 16 for Windows in the second half of 2015.

The company has assured that Office 365 commercial and consumer subscribers will be receiving the next version of Office for Mac at no additional cost.
