Title: FIX – Windows 10 9901 will not work with Vmware – keeps crashing

So as I have pointed out before, it’s usually best to install these funny Windows 10 test builds in VM’s.

Windows 10 9901 is no different.

When installing this on VmWare though, it crashed multiple times and wouldn’t install. It just kept flashing a black bootup screen.

Here’s the solution.

On a mac, when you create the VM file, you go to it on the desktop.

Right click on the file and go to “Show Package Contents”

A folder should open up with a bunch of files.

Edit the .VMX file for your install with your favorite text editor.

Add this line: firmware = “efi”

Save the file.

Restart the VM and you should be off to the races!
