The browser wars of old may be making a bit of a comeback now that Microsoft is developing the Spartan browser, but right now, the company is focusing exclusively on Windows 10.
A demo of the software was shown at the company event last week, and even though the project is still in early stages of development, there were enough signs that this is just the shakeup that the market needs — both in terms of the feature set and performance.
However, it appears that Microsoft has not yet decided on all aspects of its new browser.
The Internet Explorer development team took to Twitter yesterday to answer some questions, confirming in the process that Spartan is being designed to work great on Windows 10 and smartphones powered by this operating system.
When asked whether Spartan will be cross-platform, the answer was:

In other words, those that are not Microsoft customers will not have access to it.
Not yet, at least.
And as for Windows 7, it really is asking for the moon here, considering this OS does not support the modern technology features that are part of Windows 8 and up. Plus, there is also the case of keeping Spartan exclusive to Windows 10 in order to bring more users to the new platform.
A test version of Spartan is expected to be released before summer, in a Windows 10 preview build.
