Say what you may, but a lot of growth for Microsoft’s next OS is going to come from low end tablets. With Windows 10 build 10031, the company has focused on this pressing matter.

Affordable Windows powered tablets are all the rage in various regions of Asia — China in particular.

Many of these devices come with price tags under $200, thanks to the fact that Redmond made the operating system free for devices with displays under nine inches. And the year 2014 had more than its fair share of these cheap slates.

Now, while these touch enabled devices may be easy on the pocketbook, the edge gestures on them are usually a mixed big — often they are ignored, and many times they fail to be recognized.

Not a particularly uplifting scenario.

However, as we learned from the leaked documents that Microsoft sent to key partners to, the company has enabled a larger gesture detection area around the touch displays on low cost hardware, including tablet devices.

This implementation is likely to improve the end user experience on these budget slates.

Still, there’s always the chance that Redmond might remove it in future builds, or further betters it by the time the final retail version of Windows 10 is compiled.

But so far, so good.
