Development of the new features has officially frozen today, according to the reports swirling the web. Windows 10, it is being said, has reached the important RTM Escrow stage.

The new operating system is on track to debut on July 29.

But even with this date now out in the open, Redmond has not actually provided any details regarding the current milestones for the new operating system. Russian leaker WZor, however, is here to save the day, claiming that Windows 10 has officially entered RTM Escrow.

What this means is that, starting today, Microsoft will no longer work on new features, with the development team now focused on fixing bugs and improving performance before the big launch in July.

WZor also reveals that the software titan has opened up a new branch called ‘winmain_rtm’.

Do keep in mind that these are all unofficial reports, and should be taken with a generous helping of salt unless we get a confirmation directly from Microsoft.

This is, nevertheless, an important development phase for the OS, so maybe we will.

Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program has been talking about bug fixes and performance improvements for a few weeks now. And given that we are only a month and a half away from launch, there just may be truth to these reports.

Worth a mention that the RTM Escrow stage does not mean that Redmond will not release new preview builds for Windows Insiders.

If anything, we should expect these versions to be released at a faster pace now, as the company needs more and more people to iron out bugs and issues before the public launch.

Just don’t expect any big changes in terms of features, though, in these upcoming builds.
