The original one, in anticipation of the successor that should hopefully be out later this year. Microsoft recently confirmed that it was working on the second generation of its wearable fitness tracker.
There has been no shortage of unofficial reports on what is being called the Band 2, and even Kevin Turner, the chief operating officer at the technology giant recently confirmed that work was underway on the successor.
However, he did not elaborate on a potential release date.
But now it looks like that it may be sooner rather than later, the release date that is.
According to this this report, Microsoft is halting production of the original Band, and the company is said to be selling out its existing inventory — meaning no more units will be available after Microsoft runs out of refurbished stock.
Redmond is reportedly testing Band 2 internally, as well in locations in Europe.
And judging by how things are shaping up, the company might unveil this new hardware alongside its new smartphones, which are expected to be revealed sometimes in the next two months.
Having said that, little is known about this next generation fitness tracker.
Rumors have hinted that the hardware will be overhauled to feature a curved display, instead of the flat display that the original Band currently sports. But what is not known is whether Band 2 will come with some new tracking capabilities.
Guess we will find out soon enough.
