Technology giant Microsoft has officially recalled faulty power supply cables designed for some of its Surface Pro tablets, detailing what cables are affected and how to get a free replacement.
Microsoft says the damage may occur over time and is advising all those affected to seek a replacement: “If AC power cords are sharply and repeatedly bent or tightly wrapped, for example. Examples of damage include cracking, fraying, or bulging.”
“Even if you don’t see damage to your AC power cord, Microsoft is asking all Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 customers, and pre-March 15, 2015, Surface Pro 3 customers to order a free replacement AC power cord.”
The problem affects AC power cords belonging to the Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 sold before March 15th 2015.
The recall does not apply too:
• AC power cords for the Surface RT, Surface 2, Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 sold after March 15 2015.
• AC power cords for the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book
• Power supplies with DC power cord for all devices
• AC power cords and power supplies for docking stations for the Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3
