Title: Old Windows 10 Builds Expire Today
Post by: javajolt on September 15, 2016, 08:52:17 PM
With Microsoft moving full steam ahead towards the development of Redstone 2, the company wants to be done with the old Windows 10 builds that users are running.

Be done with maintaining them, and more importantly, get users on the newer versions, so that they can provide the necessary feedback on the new features and enhancements that are added.

The company just shipped build 14926 to Insiders yesterday.

And Dona Sarkar, the chief of the Windows Insider Program, took the opportunity to remind users that that old Windows 10 builds reach their expiration dates today, recommending them to upgrade to the newest preview versions as soon as possible.

This is just a recommendation for the time being — but moving to the newer builds will become mandatory on October 15.

Basically, computers running builds with a September 15 will stop booting completely.

Starting today, though, these old versions will display a build expiration notification once a day, while from October 1 onwards they will start rebooting automatically every 3 hours. Eventually, they will stop booting altogether by October 15, leaving users no choice but to upgrade to newer builds.

Or quite the Windows Insider Program altogether.

Extreme measures!

Sure, they can then switch to the stable version of Windows 10 too.

But this recently released build 14926 expires on May 1, 2017, by the way, so moving to this version means these users are completely safe for the next seven months. Microsoft could very well introduce the final version of Windows 10 Redstone 2 by then, too.
