As expected, and bang on target is Windows 10 build 14955, which has just been released for PC and mobile devices registered on the Fast ring channel of the Windows Insider Program.
This one has been on the radar for a while now.
Unfortunately, there are not a lot of cool features in this version, unlike the previous such release, and Microsoft has not announced anything major for this version — this build is pretty much as vanilla as it goes when it comes to big additions.
But it is from the Development Branch, where you will find Redstone 2, also known as RS2.
And it does offer something new.
Namely an update for Outlook Mail & Calendar, both on PC and mobile, that now lets users open email messages in a new window. While also allowing for the possibility of using Quick Actions directly from new email notifications.
Additionally, users also get access to @mentions, which entails typing the @ symbol anywhere in the body of the email and getting the attention of the person they want to address.
This last feature, in particular, has been a long time coming.
Also new is context awareness in the Narrator on PCs, which adds several usability and accessibility options to this side of the operating system that help with navigation and cycling through the various provided options.
That about covers it in terms of new features, though build 14955 does fix an awful lot of stuff, and also comes with a range of known issues, which you can check out at the link above before deploying.
Microsoft is holding an event tomorrow, where the company is bound to show off more of the upcoming Redstone 2 upgrade. So, chances are that we will find out more about this refresh of the Windows 10 operating system, then.
Plus, the company will also kick off its next Bugbash from November 8 to 13, details of which will be posted in the Feedback Hub.
