Carrier well above international average
AT&T appears to charge more for iPad data plans than many other carriers across the globe, according to data gathered by Tableau Software. Under AT&T's latest data plans, US customers pay $12.50/GB to use data on the carrier's 3G network. Out of 35 total carriers, only five charge more per GB than AT&T. The list is topped by Orange in France, where customers pay $25.47/GB when the price is converted to USD.
Several other European carriers also charge more than AT&T, while the cheapest data plans come from Asia. Customers in Singapore and Hong Kong reportedly pay an average of $0.51 and $0.72, respectively, for each GB of data.
The comparison is not quite an apples-to-apples comparison in certain respects. Unlimited plans were assumed to provide 30GB of usage per month, as a reference to establish per-GB pricing.
