First iPhone jailbreak founder George Hotz, has announced to release a new jailbreak tool dubbed Limera1n on Oct 11. Arriving on exactly first anniversary of Blackra1n jailbreak, the new Limera1n will jailbreak all iOS 4.1 running devices - iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Limera1n would be released at
http://limera1n.com website.
Just yesterday, we
reported that Chronic Dev Team announced to release greenpois0n jailbreak on 10/10/10 for iOS 4.1 devices with Apple A4 chip on it. That did disappoint owners of older iOS devices but then iPhone Dev Team released Windows only redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 1 jailbreak for iPhone 3G and second generation iPod touch.
George Hotz aka geohot is accredited for the first iPhone jailbreak. Though Hotz has closed his twitter account and chosen to stay low profile, his itch to release jailbreaks for iOS devices hasn't been cured. New Limera1n jailbreak will be usable with all iOS devices:
-iPhone 3GS
-iPhone 4
-iPod touch 2G (with new bootrom)
-iPod touch 3G
-iPod touch 4G
-iPad
Hotz had posted a picture of Limera1n jailbreak applied iOS devices - iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPhone 3GS. Whether limera1n will support iPod touch 3G and iPod touch 2G with new boot roms is unclear.
maybe i am to ocd but if i knew i was going to take pictures to post online,
i would wipe off the fingerprints before hand.Limera1n jailbreak might be untethered by nature and is based on low-level bootrom exploit different than SHAtter exploit and one used in greenpois0n. It uses the same exploit found by c0mex, the developer of Spirit jailbreak.
The iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd noted on Twitter account that Limera1n jailbreak might lead Apple to shut two low-level bootroom exploits with next update. Apple did the same by fixing the 24kpwn bootrom exploit iPhone 3GS.
