« on: January 24, 2011, 05:03:39 PM »

Gamers can now be bring in some extra amount of excitement into their lives. For, Sony is set to bring forth their new version of the PSP, called the PSP2. The gaming console isn’t just run-of-the-mill, in case you thought so. The Sony PSP2 will come spruced up with an OLED display and will offer 3G support. We know you are pinching yourselves in disbelief when you read this.

The additional features could mean that the upcoming PSP2 will let you download games and software over 3G. Besides, you will be able to play games with online friends too.

The info comes courtesy of a report published by Japanese newspaper Nikkei. We are left to wonder why Sony is maintaining a silence, though the device they are readying has everything in it to make the gaming universe sit up and take notice.

Rumors abound in the tech press on the PSP2 and it is being speculated that the device would come with a touch-sensitive pad. It is for sure that the device is in the works and would finally arrive. Who knows, Sony might even be looking at latching on to the Apple iPod and iPhone gaming segment too when the device finally releases.

There’s no doubt that the gaming fraternity is now looking forward to playing with the world’s first ever game machine that will connect to a 3G cell phone network.

It has also been reported that Sony is developing a chip to enable high-res images to be downloaded and displayed faster. To run on Google’s Android OS, the PSP2 is likely to come for real by the end of the current year. Pricing could obviously be on a higher side, when compared with the current version of the PSP model.

The Sony press event to be held on January 27 (that is just a few days from now) in Tokyo might give us more details. Stay tuned.
