Hackintosh Thoughts ONLY - Wish List
« on: May 12, 2011, 08:04:10 PM »
Here is my laundry list of parts for this build. I know I could spend less but I am not looking to downgrade my speed and need some horsepower for my main workstation.

Motherboard
- Gigabyte LGA1366 SATA3 ATI CrossFireX ATX Motherboard GA-X58A-UD3R $199.99

I looked at the extreme edition CPU ($1k for the chip alone ) but I would get better performance with a SSD and over-clocking the CPU.

- Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition Gulftown 3.33GHz 6 x 256KB L2 Cache 12MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80613I7980X $1,049.99

CPU Cooler
- Zalman CNPS9900LED Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler $64.99
Every time I overclock, I get the best cooler I can find and this sucker is HUGE!

I have some quiet fans in my storage area that fit this case that will now get some use. I built a PC for my wife with this case and I found it very roomy, well constructed and more importantly, quiet.

Optical Drives (2)
- Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive IHAS424-98 $25.99x2=$51.98

Fast drive with lots of positive reviews.

- Will be adding 16 GB later on (2 of this set: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333) $79.99x2=159.98

Extra storage
- I will be using 3 x 2TB WD Black drives from my MacPro on this rig.

$159.99x3=479.97

Total out of pocket will be $1780, or a net cost of $1695 after $95 back in rebates.

Am I missing anything? I am busy for the next week and will not have any time to put this together, which gives me a few days to think about this project. If this works out, I will sell my MP (quad 2.66, 16GB RAM, no scratches/dings, original box) on CL/Ebay (I am guessing I can get at least $1500 (probably more) so the new computer will not cost all that much to build, that considered).

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks for the prior advice and encouragement everyone!
