Samsung, Nvidia announce dual-core Galaxy R
« on: August 10, 2011, 05:11:49 PM »

The Galaxy R is the first smartphone in Samsung's Galaxy series to feature Nvidia's Tegra 2 dual-core processor.

Samsung and Nvidia have teamed for the latest Galaxy smartphone and it made its official debut today.

Dubbed the Samsung Galaxy R, theAndroid 2.3 Gingerbread device is powered by Nvidia's Tegra 2 dual-core processor. Though the same chipset can be found in the Galaxy Tab 10.1, this is the first Galaxy smartphone to feature Nvidia's processor. Previous models, such as the Galaxy S 4G and Epic 4G, used Samsung's own 1GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8 processor.

With the dual-core goodness and GeForce GPU, users of the Galaxy R should enjoy faster Web browsing, better multitasking, and smoother game performance. The smartphone can also play back 1080p HD video, though video capture is currently limited to 720p HD. Other features of the handset include a 4.19-inch WVGA (800x480) Super Clear LCD and 8GB of internal memory.

The Samsung Galaxy R is available in Sweden and coming soon to Europe and Asia. However, details about U.S. availability were not disclosed at this time. For a closer look at the device, Nvidia has posted a hands-on video ▼, and you can check out the photo gallery below.
