Installing Win8DP
« on: September 14, 2011, 09:10:36 AM »
Installation went smooth and was identical to win7.  Setup was rather fast, and a couple issues I have so far are;

♦ when clicking on the start button it goes directly to the Metro UI

♦ when using the Metro UI and I click on IE it opens build and there are no back  buttons or close button.

♦ when IE10 is fully open all necessary buttons are present.

♦ now cannot find how to turn off the computer since the start button switches to metro and does not offer the turn off command.

♠ found the turn off location.  by clicking on your user name in the upper right corner there is a drop down with turn off, restart, log off etc.

♦ cannot find the snipping tool to take a screenshot so no captures yet.

I guess I will have to play with it more tomorrow since it is 0010 now.

ciao

I am now trying out the minimum system requirements and installing W8DP on a test platforn with an AMD XP Athlon 1.73 GHZ processor, 1GB DDR400 RAM, Geforce FX5700LE 128RAM.

I have now discovered that when a web page is open lets say windows7newsinfo.com/smf/index.php if you right click on an open area an aero view displays across the top.

To get back the old start menu, open regedit, go to...and change value of RPEnabled from "1" to "0"
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

After that make restart.

Theres lots of bugs and unfortunately drivers for DX11 Ati 5450 aren't stable for me, overheat, 50%less framerates and Firefox doesn't recognize my video card, had to enable GPU support in settings.
IDK why msoft finds time to make Win work on arm and x64 but hasn't time to make stuff work and behave correctly. Maybe they added features in last minute but why did they post that they tested everything many hours and worked didn't crash and thought it's ready lol.

Arm and x64 has plenty of bugs.  Either way, buggy drivers and software is not MS problem.  Vendors need to update their drivers and software to be compatible with the OS.  If you can install Win8 on just about any piece of hardware and have it work at all today then MS did a pretty damn fine job at creating reference drivers to fill in the holes of incompatible drivers FOR YOU which is something you wont find other companies doing.  What you'll notice most of time is that x64 drivers will work because those drivers where created from the ground up not too long ago.  Where as 32 bit drivers are the same rehashed garbage from many many years ago.

Thank you. Works perfectly. I had to resort to the age old crl+alt+del to get to the Shut Down button earlier.
