Have you installed Windows 8 on your computer and using it as your primary OS? Would you like to disable Windows 8 Metro? Not interested in using third-party tools to disable the Metro? If the answer to all of these questions is “yes”, then we have a smart workaround to share with you to easily disable or enable Windows 8 Metro.

Though a bunch of good applications available to easily enable or disable Windows 8 Metro, the problem is that you need to run the applications manually to enable or disable the Metro. Those who are looking for an easier solution to quickly disable or enable Metro may like to add Enable/disable Metro option to the desktop context menu (right-click menu).

Follow the steps given below to easily add Disable/Enable Metro option to the desktop context menu. Thanks to “Shawn” at the EightForums for creating the script.

NOTE: Turning Metro off will not disable the new Task Manager. All other Metro features such as Explorer Ribbon, and Start screen will be disabled.

Procedure:

Step 1: Visit this link and download the zip file if you want it with sound visit this link. Extract the zip to get a folder named Add Disable Enable Metro To Context Menu.

Step 2: Open the folder. You will see a registry file named Add Disable Enable Metro and another script named Toggle Disable Enable Metro. Right-click on the script and select Properties. Under General tab, click on Unblock button and then click Apply button.

Step 3: Now, copy this script to C:\Windows folder. Click Continue for the UAC prompt.

Step 4: Double-click on Add Disable Enable Metro registry file (.reg file). Click Yes button if you are prompted with UAC.

Step 5: Click on the “Yes” button for the warning message. Finally, click Ok button. You are done! You should now see Disable/Enable Metro option in the desktop context menu.

To remove Disable/Enable Metro entry from the desktop context menu you need to download Remove Disable/Enable Metro registry file from here and then run it.
