Windows Developer Preview supported the aero lite glass theme by opening an object from Windows 8 core files but, Windows 8 Consumer Preview doesn’t support this trick and you need to perform a simple, but tricky action in-order to enable aero lite glass theme in Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
Just follow the instruction below and your aero lite glass theme would be enabled in minutes. There is also a video showing the same process embedded at the end.
Instructions:
1. First of all, open up ‘Personalization’ window by right clicking on the desktop and then personalization or you can go to personalization from the desktop Control Panel.
2. A pop-up window would open named as ‘Personalization’.
3. Select and activate ‘Windows’ Theme under ‘Aero Themes’ section.
4. Your windows theme would change to default theme.
5. Now, click the ‘Window Color’ at the bottom of the ‘Personalization’ window.
6. Another window would open showing some different colors for your aero theme. Select any of them except ‘Automatic’ (Don’t select automatic as it won’t support Aero Lite Glass)
7. After selecting the color, you need to change the ‘transparency ‘ which can be done by moving the slider to the extreme left side.
8. Click ‘Save Changes’ at the bottom of the window.
9. You would be taken back to the ‘Personalization’ window.
10. Go to ‘Window Color’ again by clicking the link at the bottom of the screen. You would be taken to the color window again.
11. Don’t be annoyed! We are almost done.
12. Now, go to desktop but, don’t close the ‘Window Color’ window. We would need that color window later.
13. After going to ‘Desktop’, go to ‘Personalization’ again by right clicking and then personalization.
14. Personalization would open in a separate window. Now, this time select ‘Windows Basic’ under ‘Basic and High Contrast Themes’ section.
15. Your Windows’ theme would now change to aero lite but, still the glass is not there. This is where you would need to go back to ‘Window Color’ window which we left open in 12th step.
16. Uncheck the ‘enable transparency’ button and then check it again. Your aero lite glass theme would be enabled.
17. Click ‘Save Changes’ at the bottom of the screen and you are done.
18. Congratulations! Your aero lite glass theme is now enabled.
