Reports suggest that both Microsoft and Nokia have recently outlined a new strategy to target the affordable segment with their Windows Phone8 platform, and the Finnish telecommunication giant in particular has had notable success with this.
Two of its newest low-end smartphones — the Lumia 520 and Lumia 620 — have been a raging success in emerging markets around the globe.
And now word is that the smartphone maker is set to continue this strategy and unveil a more affordable flavor of the Lumia 920 smartphone before the end of this year. This new budget (relatively speaking, of course) device is set to replace the Lumia 820 series.
A recent report over at NokiaPowerUser claims that the handset should arrive with a 4.7 inch WXGA CBD AMOLED touchscreen display and features the same CPU and GPU combination seen in the Lumia 920 smartphone.
Additionally, the new smartphone will house an 8 megapixel Carl-Zeiss optics camera with F/1.9 aperture. However it will be without the popular OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) technology that played a key role in the success of its predecessor.
This Windows Phone 8 handset is said to make an official appearance sometimes in either September or October, and will most likely be aggressively priced.
Nothing is official yet, but speculation about a low cost Lumia 920 has surfaced before. And with Nokia’s newfound emphasis on the affordable market segment and news of its mainstream lineup refresh later this year, a low cost variant of the Lumia 920 may well be in our future.
