Asus has yet-another variation of its Transformer Book T100 2-in-1 Windows tablet on the way. Last week I spotted a few mentions of the new Transformer Book T100TAM on the web, but couldn’t find any differences between the device and the models that were already available for purchase.
Now TLBHD has posted an initial review of the new model and it looks like Asus has improved the case and screen design, while most features remain unchanged.
The Asus Transformer Book T100TAM features an Intel Atom Z3775 quad-core Bay Trail processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of solid state storage, and Windows 8.1 software.
You can use it as a tablet or attach the included keyboard dock and use the system as a notebook. The system gets up to 8 hours of battery life and takes about 3 hours to fully charge when using the included charging cable (or longer if you’re using the tablet while it’s charging — the model I reviewed last year also featured pretty slow charging).
The processor’s a bit faster than the Atom Z3740 chip from last year’s model, but this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Transformer Book T100 with the new Z3775 processor.
It is the first time Asus has offered a model with an aluminum lid and edges and a new display panel which TLBHD says offers better color accuracy.
For the most part the new model is a minor update to the Transformer Book T100 line and it’s probably not worth upgrading if you already have one. Even if you don’t already have one, you might want to opt for a plastic model anyway: you’ll probably be able to find one for less than the $399 list price of the T100TAM and you’ll get a tablet that’s a little lighter than the 1.33 pound Transformer Pad 100TAM.
