Build 2015: Microsoft Has Released Windows 10 IoT Preview
« on: May 01, 2015, 01:23:01 AM »
And in the process announced two new partnerships. Windows 10 IoT Preview is an early test version of Microsoft’s upcoming operating system for Internet of Things hardware.

Providing users with a chance to create cloud connected devices, using that various development boards that are now available in the market like the Raspberry Pi 2 and Minnowboard Max — yes, that’s an actual name of a product.

Redmond confirmed development of this flavor of Windows 10 back in 2014, and now the company has released a preview build seeking feedback from users.

As Microsoft explains on its official blog:

Quote
“Our goal is to give Makers the opportunity to play with the software bits early and to listen to the feedback on what’s working well and what we can do better. You may notice some missing drivers or rough edges; we look forward to receiving your feedback to help us prioritize development work.

We’ll be incorporating the feedback we receive into regular software updates along with additional drivers, bug fixes and new features. Those looking for a commercial-quality release should wait for general availability this summer.”

Makers, I’m sure, will continue to provide Microsoft with the necessary bit of feedback.

In addition to this new release, the software titan has a couple of new partnerships. First up is the Arduino collaboration that aims to bridge the gap between Windows software and Arduino hardware.

And finally, the Hackster.IO partnership will bring an extensive project gallery capabilities to Windows 10 developers, opening up avenues for them to collaborate and share their ideas. The Windows Developer Program for IoT is here, for those of you ready to get started with developing.

By this time next year, the Windows 10 scene on Raspberry Pi 2 could be well and truly huge.
