Got to love these highly technical details from the company regarding new technology in Microsoft Edge, the new web browser set to debut as the default option in Windows 10 later this year.

The time around Redmond has highlighted ‘srcset’.

This is basically an implementation of a new technology that sets attributes of the ‘img’ element, allowing the browser to pick the right image for the device that it is being used on. Websites have the ability to declare the image attributes such as scale factor and all that.

Think of them as responsive images.

As outlined by Microsoft in the official announcement, say, if you are using a tablet, Microsoft Edge can automatically load the right version of the image for your device.

Optimized, in other words.

This makes getting the image faster, which itself is responsive, and the browsing experience is greatly improved, the company explains. However, work on this is currently ongoing, and support for new descriptors (like width) will not be ready in time for Windows 10.

Future update, then.

On the whole though, additions like this are sure to make Edge a worthy rival to other popular solutions on the market like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, so keep them coming!
