Windows 10 Will Also Launch On USB Sticks
« on: June 24, 2015, 05:23:40 PM »
Media. Can’t have enough options when it comes to it. Microsoft is set to launch Windows 10 on USB sticks and offer it alongside good old DVDs, to go with digital downloads of the operating system.

All in a bid to make the OS available to more people across the world, and simplify the process of installation. That is, according to a fairly reliable report from a German website that cites people close to the matter.

USBs will provide an alternate install method for users along with the traditional DVDs.

Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 10 will be made available on USB flash drives, but the report claims that both versions will be running on the same drive — users will be allowed to choose which one to install.

That’s neat.

A welcome change compared to the traditional DVD installation media, which not only limits a user to either 32-bit or 64-bit versions of the operating system, but can also scratch or stop working altogether with the passage of time.

Besides, if this report holds true, then it will also make acquiring and installing Windows 10 easier for people that have tablets and laptops without optical drives.

And limited or sketchy Internet connections.

Plus installation via USB is also expectedly faster, with estimates of complete setup in 20 minutes or thereabouts. So it’s a win all around — as long as users remember to keep their USB safe and secure. Finding a DVD in a heap is effort enough, locating a lost USB stick can be a nightmare.

Do keep in mind that this is an unconfirmed report for now, but Microsoft is sure to offer more details as we inch closer to the July 29 launch of Windows 10.
