Pop-Up Hints Start Arriving for Windows 10 Users
« on: July 02, 2015, 02:54:30 PM »
There’s a whole lot of new content and features in Windows 10, and users could be hard pressed to find much of it beyond the new Start Menu.

Microsoft is making learning somewhat easier with the launch of smart pop-up hints and tips on the desktop. As announced by Joe Belfiore on Twitter.

For now, they may annoy you by popping up for features you know well and use. But, in theory these won’t show up after launch. However, if you come across a new part of the OS, or perhaps seem to be in need of a feature, a hint will appear.

Quite how smart/annoying/helpful (delete as applicable) these hints turn out to be we’ll find out over the coming days and beyond launch.

However, remember these will be of greatest use for the typical PC user.

When they start upgrading at the end of the month, many of them will need all the help they can get. Consider the average Windows XP or Windows 7 user:

• Lots of Control Panel features have moved.

• The Start Menu is totally different.

• Lots of features are buried on new parts of the desktop.

• Some features like Charms are hidden off the desktop.

• Icons and buttons look different and may perform extra tasks.

• Cloud services are nothing to do with the weather forecast.

• Cortana will be an all-new experience to many.

Take all that into account, and plenty of users will be confused by their first Windows 10 experiences, so it is only natural that Microsoft wants to help and guide them in the right direction.
