More tests. Benchmarks that reveal just how blazing fast Microsoft Edge, the company’s new web browser is when compared to its direct rival, Google Chrome.

Redmond rolled out Windows 10 build 10240 yesterday, and although there is no changelog available to tell what is new in this version, the company made a point to explain that improving the Edge browser was one of the priorities for this release.

And boy, have they done that.

One thing significantly improved in build 10240 is the overall speed of the web browser, and Microsoft confirms that in all key benchmarks, Edge performed notably better than Google Chrome.

A look at the results, then:

• On WebKit Sunspider, Edge is 112% faster than Chrome

• On Google Octane, Edge is 11% faster than Chrome

• On Apple JetStream, Edge is 37% faster than Chrome

As so eloquently explained by Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program:

“The Edge team has been continuing to optimize performance since first adding the new browser to Windows 10. In this build, Microsoft Edge is even better and is beating Chrome and Safari on their own JavaScript benchmarks.”

And since Microsoft edge arrives on Windows 10 as a universal app, and will offer the same feature set and portfolio, you can be sure that Redmond will try to optimize its performance on mobile devices as well once it launches on Windows 10 Mobile.

But so far, so good.
