iMac 27 inch With 5k Retina Display (My Own Review)
« on: October 28, 2015, 07:57:27 PM »
So it's been 10 months now since I had my first iMac and i'm glad I waited till last year in October 2014 to watch the Apple October 2014 event. The Mac they announced there blown my mind. When I checked what spec they were offering, to me it felt like a powerful all-in-one PC. I managed to get my iMac right on Christmas Day 2014 and 10 months has past, it's time for my review.

The software on the iMac came with OS X Yosemite right out of the box. The text on the screen was a bit small for me to read, so adjusting the text on the display settings make my reading on the display a lot easier. The camera is good. It records videos in 720p HD and the built in mic is OK, but i have a professional Blue Yeti microphone for making videos.

One feature I like about OS X is the ability to run Windows on it. It's very handy for me because I like to run emulators that were built especially for Windows. I use a video game emulator called Bizhawk which was created by a group of people at TASvideos.org for creating tool assisted spedruns of video games.

As 2015 came, my iMac now has the El Capitan update and now bootcamp fully supports Windows 10. I took off Windows 10 on Bootcamp for a while because it wasn't fully supported with Windows 10 before it came out. But now that it's supported, I am able to take advantage of my 3TB hard drive. I can use Windows 10 and OS X on multiple partitions.

My hard drive is Apple's 3TB Fusion Drive, which uses a 120GB SSD and a 3TB data drive combined, giving you 3.1TB  storage in total. My Processor is the Intel i7 4790k 4ghz CPU. I also have 8GB of DDR3 RAM which can be expanded up to 32GB.

The wireless keyboard and mouse that came with it runs on batteries. Lately, Apple have released a wireless keyboard and mouse that lasts longer than last year's so I will consider upgrading my wireless keyboard and mouse at Christmas this year.

The performance on OS X is good and also Windows 10 runs smoothly too, even the latest preview build runs smooth too.

Sometimes i have to use an onscreen keyboard on the Windows partition when needing buttons like delete, page down and page up. But i can always connect a Windows keyboard to my iMac when i'm using the Windows partition.

Most people use a Mac for creating music. My new M-audio Keystaiton keyboard runs smooth on programs like Garageband. There is no delay at all when press keys on the keyboard. Also on OS X, the keys can be sensitive when trying to press caps lock button.

I hope you enjoy reading my iMac review. I will look forward to upgrading my wireless keyboard and mouse this year as then I won't need to replace those AA batteries anymore.

I rate my iMac with Retina Display: 4/5

Pros:
Good Performance
Great Software
Can Run Windows

Cons:
Wireless Keyboard does not have numeric keypad. Not great for using Windows on it.
