Verizon Says It'll Have First 5G Network In US
« on: January 25, 2016, 05:15:55 PM »
The first 5G wireless network in the United States will come from Verizon, the carrier has pledged. Verizon is already working on the network, but it expects it will be at least 2020 before it can be deployed in some areas. This pledge to become the first 5G provider in the US came from Fran Shammo, Verizon's Chief Financial Officer.

Network providers across the globe are working on 5G and some believe it could be available even sooner than 2020. SK Telecom, for example, wants there to be a 5G network in place by 2018 for the Winter Olympics.

Shammo mentioned Verizon is working to carry out 5G trials this year and those will take place in a couple facilities.

Verizon was the first US carrier to offer a large 4G LTE network.
