Microsoft May Have Sold 6 Million Surface Tablets Last Year
« on: February 03, 2016, 06:52:59 PM »

A personal best for Microsoft. Despite early criticism, the Surface ship is now back on track, with reports that some 6 million Surface tablets were sold last year the world over.

Capping off 2015 as quite a successful year for the device.

The Surface business is growing at a steady rate each year for Redmond, and the company even commented on this during its financial earnings call recently. The latest models built up on the success these devices have achieved every new quarter.

And according to this report, citing supply chain makers in Taiwan, Microsoft sold a total of 6 million Surface last year.

Now, while Microsoft did not provide these granular figures, it did confirm that Surface revenue grew by a solid 29% year over year in the second quarter of fiscal year 2016. Better yet, most of this success was achieved with the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book.

Two of the newest hardware devices in the lineup.

What does the future hold, then?

It is expected that a 30% increase is likely to be experienced this year, so we could probably be looking at shipment figures of 8 million units by December 31, provided all goes well.

Microsoft is also expected to announce some new models in the fall, provided it maintains the same schedule. Remains to be seen what kind of a share the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 carve out for themselves, but this much is certain that the days of the original Surface RT are behind us.
