Friday never felt so far! Microsoft is all set to end its free Windows 10 upgrades promotion on July 29, a whole year after the new operating system launched for users.

However, the company has faced widespread criticism over what people believe is an aggressive approach to encourage users to upgrade to the new OS. Forced upgrades are one thing, but there is truth to the matter that Redmond has made declining the upgrade needlessly difficult.

Not to mention confusing.

It is for this very reason the software titan is facing further legal action — both at home and abroad.

Three men have filed a lawsuit against Microsoft in the district of Florida last week, claiming that the frequent ‘Get Windows 10’ upgrade prompts are a violation of the laws regarding unsolicited electronic advertising.

Furthermore, they could well be in breach of the FTC regulations on deceptive and unfair practices.

But that’s not all.

Microsoft is also facing legal action in Haifa, Israel where the company is sued for installing Windows 10 on PCs without the consent of their owners.

Both of these lawsuits are seeking class action status, meaning if this is awarded it would open up the company to considerably wider and costlier litigation as opposed to dealing with a handful of individual cases.

Redmond does maintain that these claims are without merit, while emphasizing that the installation of the new operating system is completely optional and not mandatory in any way. If anything, users can roll back to the previous version of their OS within a month of upgrading to Windows 10.

If they so wish.

Worth keeping an eye on, these two cases, if they solidify.
