Microsoft Releases Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB3176934
« on: August 19, 2016, 09:26:34 PM »
Been a while since we’ve had one of these, but Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 cumulative update, and it goes by the designation of KB3176934.

This is for PCs that are rocking the Windows 10 preview builds, meaning if you are not part of the Insider program, you are not going to see this one show up in the Windows Update panel.

But the most interesting bit here is that this update takes the version number to Windows 10 14393.82. And this you may recall is the exact same version that another cumulative update that Microsoft launched earlier this week brought.

What’s even more odd is the fact that Microsoft even says that devices that have the old update running are not going to see the new one — and this is strange as KB3176934 comes with an exclusive change.

As Microsoft explains:

Quote
“We have released Cumulative Update (KB3176934) to Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14393 on PCs which will bring the build number to 14393.82. This Cumulative Update includes the same fixes as KB3176932 but with an additional fix: Improved download size optimization of updates.”

Stranger things have happened in the world of Windows, though.

We’ll take it as they come!

What has probably happened is that this new update brings the same fixes as the previous one, but with this above exception. But Microsoft is not sending it to devices that already have the other update installed, and they are not getting this improvement.

Chances are that this improved download size optimization of updates functionality will be part of another cumulative update planned in the coming weeks, as this is an important addition.

In any case, Insiders will receive it at some point in the near future.

And users will too, retails users that is.

Once all the testing is complete.
